STATE REP AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR TO SPEAK ON HB 176 OutLoud
STATE REP DAN STEWART, EQUALITY OHIO'S SUE DOERFER TO SPEAK Bill Sponsor and Executive Director to Stress Importance of HB 176 to Fight Discrimination Against Gays
OutLoud will host State Representative Dan Stewart and the Executive Director of Equality Ohio, Sue Doerfer, at the Stonewall Center on High to discuss the Equal Housing and Employment Act (HB 176) on March 13, 2010. Doors open at 11:00 am, speakers begin at 12:00 pm.
Currently, it is still legal to discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation and/or gender identity in employment and housing decisions. Rep. Stewart sponsored HB 176, the Equal Housing and Employment Act, which passed in the House. Senator Dale Miller (D-Cleveland) has agreed to lead the effort to pass the bill in the Senate. Equality Ohio is working to ensure Senate President Bill Harris moves the bill into a committee where the bill will receive a full and fair hearing.
OutLoud was founded in 2010 to provide LGBTA community members a place to gather and discuss relevant topics, offer support for each other, and educate ourselves and others about issues surrounding the community and available resources. It is open every Saturday at the Stonewall Center, 1160 N. High St. Columbus, OH 43201, and is also available on the web at www.outloudcolumbus.com. Full Story. [3/5/10]
